About 28,000 private-hire car drivers in Singapore will have their tax assessments revised after Grab submitted incomplete income records to the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS).

In a statement to AsiaOne, IRAS said Grab informed the tax authority at the end of July that it had submitted incomplete income records for drivers who had opted into IRAS' pre-filing of income initiative for the Year of Assessment 2026.

As a result, the affected drivers' income was understated for assessing income tax.

IRAS said it has since received the corrected records from Grab and is revising the affected Notices of Assessment (NOAs).

"Around 16,000 taxpayers will see an increase in their tax payable. For the majority, the additional tax payable is less than $100," said IRAS, adding that the actual amount will vary depending on each individual's relief entitlements and income tax bracket.

The tax authority also said that affected taxpayers do not need to take any action, with most set to receive their revised NOAs by the end of September.

"Taxpayers on GIRO instalment plans will have their instalment plans adjusted automatically. Those who are not on GIRO instalment plans should make payment by the due date stated in their revised NOA," it said.

Responding to queries from AsiaOne, a spokesperson for Grab said it had informed IRAS of a data submission error affecting about 28,000 driver-partners, and had since been working with the tax authority to review the submission process.

The spokesperson said Grab had notified all affected driver-partners that they would receive their revised NOAs directly from IRAS starting this month.

"We sincerely apologise to all impacted driver-partners for this issue and any inconvenience caused," Grab said, adding that it had also put in place additional safeguards to reduce the risk of similar errors occurring in the future.
