Lalamove delivery riders should be wary of job scams targeting them with fake purchase and delivery orders.

In an advisory issued on Tuesday (Oct 6) night, police said there has been a surge in such job scams, with at least 13 cases lodged since September and losses amounting to at least $2,000.

In these cases, victims would receive "Buy for Me" orders on Lalamove, requesting them to purchase items from one location and deliver them to another.

Those who accept such orders would then be contacted by the scammer, instructing them to buy Roblox gift cards from a convenience store.

Scammers would then falsely claim that the job can be completed remotely if the redemption codes are shared with them.

After getting the redemption codes, scammers would redeem the gift cards and then would either become uncontactable or cancel the delivery order, leaving the delivery rider to bear the full cost of the gift cards purchased.

The police reminded the delivery community to be wary of those who ask them to purchase gift cards and share redemption codes.

They can report suspicious users or transactions directly to the relevant platform immediately.

Those who are in doubt can call the 24/7 ScamShield helpline at 1799.
