Two Malaysians are receiving treatment for minor injuries after Typhoon Champi in Taiwan, as confirmed by Wisma Putra.

The Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei is providing consular assistance and staying in contact with local authorities.

Malaysians in Taiwan are advised to monitor weather updates, avoid risky areas, and check travel plans due to disruptions from the typhoon.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — Two Malaysian nationals are currently receiving medical treatment for minor injuries in the aftermath of Typhoon Champi on Taiwan, the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry which is also known as Wisma Putra said the matter was confirmed by the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei, which is also providing the necessary consular assistance to both individuals.

“(The centre) remains in close communication with Malaysian student groups and the relevant local authorities to monitor developments and safeguard the welfare of Malaysians in Taiwan,” the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Malaysians requiring consular assistance, or those with information concerning other Malaysian nationals who may require assistance in the affected areas, are urged to contact the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei at +886 972 349 343 or via email at [email protected] .

Wisma Putra said it is closely monitoring the typhoon situation, which has brought strong winds and heavy rainfall. Adverse weather conditions are expected to persist in parts of Taiwan.

The typhoon has caused widespread flight cancellations and disruptions to ferry services. In light of this, Malaysians with upcoming travel plans are advised to check their flight or ferry status directly with the respective operators before proceeding to airports or terminals.

The ministry is advising Malaysians residing in or visiting Taiwan to monitor local weather advisories, avoid coastal and mountainous areas, and adhere to safety instructions and evacuation orders issued by local authorities.

It said local authorities have already evacuated residents from flood- and landslide-prone areas, including areas near a landslide dam in Hualien County. Malaysians are told to avoid unnecessary travel to such areas.

Wisma Putra is also encouraging all Malaysians to register and regularly update their contact details via the e-Konsular portal at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my to facilitate timely communication and access to consular assistance.
