Health Ministry denies claims officials absent from funerals of FDS crash victims

Dr. Ismuni Bohari, Malaysia's Health Deputy Director-General, refuted claims that senior health officials neglected to attend the funerals of Flying Doctors Service crash victims in Sarawak.

He confirmed his presence at the funerals in Miri and Kuching, representing the Health Minister and senior leaders.

Dr. Ismuni emphasized his attendance was motivated by personal and humanitarian reasons, while criticizing a news portal for spreading false information.

Legal action may be considered if the inaccuracies are not corrected.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — Allegations that no senior health officials attended the funerals of members of the Flying Doctors Service (FDS) killed in a crash in Sarawak are untrue and irresponsible, Health deputy director-general Dr Ismuni Bohari said.

He added that he himself had visited the families of the crash victims in Miri and Kuching, and also paid his last respects to the victims.

“I myself was there, visiting the victims’ families in Miri and Kuching on behalf of Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and the ministry’s senior leaders and paid my last respects to my beloved FDS colleagues.

“Dr Dzulkefly, secretary-general Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad and deputy secretary-general went to Senawang and I myself went to Miri and Kuching. That was what was determined by senior health officials,” he posted on X.

He said his presence was not only in an official capacity, but also out of humanitarian concern and his close ties with the FDS team, which he had previously been part of, as well as in his capacity as a Sarawak native and National Public Health Programme director.

“May we continue to honour those who have passed away and stand together in providing support and strength to the bereaved families,” he said.

Tuesday, a news portal alleged that the Health Minister should have paid his last respects to the families of the FDS victims in Sarawak instead of attending a conference in the capital while the victims’ funerals were being held.

Dr Ismuni said the news portal should have verified the facts and corrected the information in its report before legal action is taken. — Bernama

马来西亚卫生部副总监伊斯穆尼·博哈里博士驳斥了有关高级卫生官员疏于出席砂拉越飞行医生服务队坠机事故遇难者葬礼的说法。

他确认将代表卫生部长和高级领导人出席在美里和古晋举行的葬礼。

伊斯穆尼博士强调，他出席此次活动是出于个人和人道主义原因，同时批评一家新闻门户网站散布虚假信息。

如果这些不实之处得不到纠正，可能会考虑采取法律行动。

他还补充说，他本人已前往美里和古晋慰问了坠机事故遇难者家属，并向遇难者致以最后的敬意。

“我本人也亲临现场，代表卫生部长拿督斯里祖基菲里·艾哈迈德医生和卫生部高级领导人，前往美里和古晋慰问遇难者家属，并向我敬爱的FDS同事们致以最后的敬意。

“祖基菲里医生、秘书长拿督斯里哈斯诺·扎姆扎姆·艾哈迈德和副秘书长去了森那旺，而我本人去了美里和古晋。这是高级卫生官员的决定，”他在X上发帖说。

他表示，他此次到场不仅是出于官方身份，也是出于人道主义关怀，以及他与FDS团队的密切联系（他之前曾是该团队的一员），同时，他也是砂拉越本地人和国家公共卫生计划主任。

他说：“愿我们继续缅怀逝者，并团结一致，为失去亲人的家庭提供支持和力量。”

周二，一家新闻门户网站声称，卫生部长本应在沙捞越向FDS遇难者家属致以最后的敬意，而不是在遇难者葬礼举行期间在首都参加会议。
