The Education Ministry of Malaysia has initiated an immediate audit of a school in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, following the death of a 14-year-old student at its hostel, amid bullying allegations.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek emphasized that no misconduct will be overlooked, and actions will be taken based on the investigation results.

The ministry is also cooperating with the police, who have detained a student for questioning.

Counselling support is being provided to the family and school community, while the Minister has personally conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — The Education Ministry has ordered an immediate audit of a school in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, following the death of a 14-year-old Form Two student who was found unconscious at its hostel last night.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said the Inspectorate of Schools had been directed to examine safety measures and compliance with procedures at the school, and to ensure that any shortcomings were identified.

“No party will be protected if misconduct or a breach of the law is found to have occurred in this case. Appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation and in accordance with the laws in force,” she said in a statement today.

The ministry is also fully cooperating with the police investigation, which has seen a student detained to assist with inquiries.

Media reports earlier today said the 14-year-old died last night after he was found unconscious at the hostel of a school in Kuala Pilah, amid allegations that bullying may have been involved.

Kuala Pilah district police chief Superintendent Muhamad Mustafah Hussin confirmed the incident and said police would release further details on the case.

Fadhlina said she visited the school this morning to receive briefings from school staff, officials from the District Education Office and Negeri Sembilan Education Department, as well as police, on what had happened and the action taken so far.

She added that counselling and psychosocial support were being provided to the student’s family and members of the school community affected by the incident.

Fadhlina also said she had met the boy’s family at the hospital to personally convey her condolences.

“I, together with the entire Education Ministry, am deeply saddened by the death of this Form Two student from a school in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.

“I have met the deceased’s family at the hospital to personally convey my sympathy over this deeply heartbreaking loss.

“At this difficult time, our priority is the deceased’s family, and the ministry will fully cooperate with the police investigation while ensuring that the welfare of the school community continues to be safeguarded,” she said.
