KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — A 21-year-old motorcyclist was arrested after allegedly riding against traffic and crashing into two participants of the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) 2026 along Jalan Munshi Abdullah early today.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred at about 6.15am after the motorcyclist, who was carrying a 19-year-old pillion rider, allegedly passed through a road closure marked by cones.

“The rider was ordered to stop by police personnel manning the road closure, but is believed to have fled by riding against the flow of traffic before crashing into two marathon participants who were running,” he said in a press statement.

One participant, a 50-year-old woman, suffered neck injuries and is receiving treatment at Prince Court.

The other victim, a 41-year-old man, sustained injuries to his right knee and hand.

Mohd Zamzuri said an initial alcohol screening on the motorcyclist returned a positive result, with an evidential breath alcohol reading of 164mg/100ml.

The motorcyclist and pillion rider were subsequently taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for blood and urine samples as part of further investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 186 of the Penal Code.

The motorcyclist has been remanded for three days from today until October 5, while the pillion rider has been remanded for two days until October 4, with both being held at the Dang Wangi police station lock-up.

Police urged witnesses or anyone with information on the incident to contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or the nearest police station.
