A suspect, a Chinese national in his 40s, has been arrested in connection to the RM1.7 million jewellery heist at SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands, increasing the total arrests to seven.

Detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, he will be remanded until October 10 for further investigation, although none of the stolen items have been recovered.

Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob stated that the police have apprehended five foreigners and two locals, and efforts continue to locate additional suspects.

The robbery, executed by three masked men, occurred on August 17, as they broke into a goldsmith shop with an axe and crowbars before escaping.

BENTONG, Oct 7 — A Chinese national in his 40s became the latest suspect arrested over the RM1.7 million jewellery heist at SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands, bringing the total number of arrests to seven.

The man was detained after arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport yesterday and has been remanded until October 10 to assist police investigations, The New Straits Times reported today.

“The man has been remanded until October 10 to assist investigations. We did not recover any items related to the case.

“Police have so far arrested five foreigners and two locals,” Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob was quoted as saying.

He said none of the items reported stolen have been recovered from the suspect so far.

Police are still tracking down the remaining suspects, he added.

The heist took place on August 17, when three masked men armed with an axe and crowbars broke into a goldsmith shop at the hilltop resort before fleeing with jewellery worth about RM1.7 million.

Closed-circuit television footage showed the suspects, wearing caps, face masks and jackets, arriving at the resort in a vehicle before carrying out the robbery.
